Integrated Statistics is looking for a Natural Resource Specialist to work with the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Large Marine Ecosystems (LME) program. The NOAA LME program is a model for implementing ecosystem approaches to assessing, managing, recovering, and sustaining LME resources and environments. Each LME is a relatively large area of ocean space adjacent to a continent, in coastal waters where primary productivity is generally higher than in open ocean areas. NOAA's LME efforts take place at the science/policy interface of ecosystem-based management and adaptive management on the international scale. 

Duties

Key tasks may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

·       Work as an integral part of the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Office of Science & Technology (S&T) team to provide support to advance LME programs and projects worldwide in partnership with international agencies.

  • Participate in meetings with senior executives and planning officers of local, regional, national, and international organizations—including UN agencies and NGOs
  • Coordinate activities and outputs with the core network of managers and key professionals driving the current 22 GEF-funded LME projects forward in countries of Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
  • Work with partners in the global LME network (e.g. IUCN, IW:LEARN) to provide technical knowledge and expertise for sharing and application of knowledge and information (e.g. GIS, google ocean/ maps and layers) to help develop online and other products for LME projects, partners, and the public.
  • Work with NMFS S&T team to provide NOAA input and support to LME projects, GEF strategy documents, and US GEF Council members.
  • Work with NMFS S&T team to compile and inventory historical LME project information (from GEF and IW:LEARN sites) as well as provide other NOAA contributions and science and technical support to support LME Global Governance Partnership activities.
  • Provide support to the S&T Marine Ecosystems Division on activities related to integrating ecosystem information into the management of living marine resources.

 Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Ecosystems Studies, Marine Studies, or Planning and Assessment. Experience in spatial analysis and web-based interactive platforms and tools preferred.
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and project management skills.

This position is full-time and the rate of pay is $25-32/hr, depending on experience. The position is eligible for the benefits described on the Integrated Statistics website.
