Edward Barbier

Edward B. Barbier is an environmental and resource economist with more than 20 years of experience, working mainly on the economics of environment and development issues. Dr. Barbier's applied work has focused particularly on issues of land degradation, wildlife management, trade and natural resources, coastal and wetland use, tropical deforestation, biological invasions and biodiversity loss. He has served as a consultant for a variety of national, international and non-governmental agencies, including many United Nations organizations and the World Bank.
He has written or edited fifteen books in the economics of environment and development field, and has been published extensively in both academic and popular journals. Dr. Barbier's latest book is Natural Resources and Economic Development, published by Cambridge University Press in 2005. Dr. Barbier has served on the editorial boards of several leading economics and natural science journals, and he appears in the 4th edition of Who's Who in Economics.
Dr. Barbier is currently the John S. Bugas Professor of Economics, Department of Economics and Finance, University of Wyoming. He was formerly at the Environment Department, University of York, UK and previously served as Director of the London Environmental Economics Centre of the International Institute for Environment and Development and University College London.
